Aurea Media barcodes originate from a grandfathered
Prefix. A grandfathered prefix is a prefix license that
was issued prior to the ECCC's change of terms in 2002
and prior to the ECCC becoming GS1 Canada. As this
prefix has remained active since it was issued it is not
subject to their current license terms.

To obtain your own GS1 issued company prefix you can
only get it from one place - GS1. The advantages of
having your own company prefix may vary but the
primary advantage is you will have guaranteed access
to those retailers that GS1 has the strongest relationship
with. Those being some of the worlds largest retailers.
If you are a well established Company or Corporation we
would encorage you to obtain your own company prefix
A barcode from anyone other than GS1 can never belong
to you. You are simply granted use of it.
If it's critical you have your own company prefix then you
must contact GS1 to establish your own license.
